"Cheers to spring, with its beauty and grace"
April 19, 2023

As springtime comes, the cherry blossoms bloom
Flora fills the air with perfume and doom
Allergies awaken, your nose starts to twitch
And before you know it, your eyes also itch
Take some benadryl to ease your pain
Otherwise risk sneezing until your sinuses drain
Try out some flonase to calm your nose
Pray the drugs work before your eyes also close
A friend brings you flowers, a fresh bouquet
And just when you think you today’s your day
You can’t even sniff them to your dismay
Dreaded allergies keep your joy at bay
But cheers to spring, with its beauty and grace
Here’s to the allergies, that we all must face
May we find relief, and enjoy the sunshine
Until next year, when we'll all sneeze and whine
Not saying we need to rush through the season
I’m certain all of this suffering has a reason
We can all deal with a period of agitation
Because there are no flowers without pollination
Next time you see a friend suffering with red eyes
Give them a nod and together you’ll agonize
A symptom of being human, but also temporary
It’s a humbling burden that we all must carry

Please do not share with the IRS
As much as it pains me I must confess
I’ll tell with you without hesitation
This rhyme didn't yield a tax deductible donation
Today’s poem was from me to me
All to support my claritan shopping spree
Help me get back to charitable writing
Send an idea and good cause and I’ll deliver something exciting
Otherwise I’ll go on about the human condition
And my bank will be without the benefit of any commission
